Tweetdeck vs Hootsuite

Tweetdeck and Hootsuite are supporting tools to organise social media accounts. Although they might share some similarities, there are somewhat features that differentiate them. Here’s a short comparison of the two applications.

 Similarities:

  • Column-based social media management.
  •   Shorten links when posting.
  •   Scheduling social media posts for later.

Differences:

Hootsuite: Allow more social media network integration
Tweetdeck: Twitter exclusive

Neither one work better than the other but Hootsuite surely proposes more than Tweetdeck. After all, there both have the same purpose so the choice is yours.

Communication Strategy to increase public awareness on climate change

It’s all good to speak out about climate change and its impacts however, for effective climate change communication, strategy should be adopted.
The strategy would identify target audiences to disseminate the messages. The message should describe climate change, its impacts, how people contribute to climate change and how people should take action. Effective message is essential thus the message should be clear and easy to understand. Messages differ from audiences. The strategy would also propose how these messages should be delivered and through which medium. There needs to be multi-pronged approach for communicating the climate change campaign. It needs to be remembered that different target audiences will be mostly engaged through different mediums. The medium also impact on what message will be disseminated. For instance, a conference can be more in depth than a TV or radio public service announcement. There are a number of opportunities to raise awareness on climate change through conferences, workshops and training. These events can involve scientists, government officials, local community leaders and NGOs to provide overview information on climate change. These events can also be used to leverage free media coverage. It is actually important to have an operational website that keeps target audience regularly informed on climate change. This website should contain upcoming events for instance. Engagement with Newspaper, TV and radio is not negligible.  For instance, a radio quiz show could be aired. Gifts will be provided to people who will give good answers to question like “how GHG emissions can be reduced”. This quiz show will amplify public awareness on climate change. Documentary on vermiculture could be broadcasted on TV during prime time. Over social media platforms like YouTube or Facebook, competitions can be organised. Competitions are a good way to engage the general public, especially younger people about important issues. People could be asked to put together a 5-minute video emphasising the importance of planting trees to fight climate change for example. The winner could get a Smartphone. This competition will increase awareness on climate change.

How To Go Greener

Acting on climate change is everyone’s responsibility and here’s how you can do your part.
You can share the following tips with your friends on your social networks, or post them on your website or blog, to raise awareness of the importance of taking climate action. When you share them make sure you use the #ClimateChange hash tag.

At Home: Reduce- Reuse- Recycle

Buy minimally packaged goods
  • Recycle paper, plastic, glass and metal. Reuse, mend, and repurpose things to save money and divert waste from your local landfill
  • Plug air leaks in windows and doors to increase energy efficiency
  • Adjust your thermostat, lower in winter, higher in summer
  • Replace old appliances with energy efficient models and light bulbs
  • Save electricity by plugging appliances into a power strip and turning them off completely when not in use
  • Wash clothes in cold or warm water.
  • Run dishwashers only when full and don’t use heat to dry dishes
  • Eat less meat, poultry, and fish
  • Plant Trees – Enter tree planting pledges online, then plant indigenous or locally appropriate trees where you live.

At Work and On the Go
  • Print double-sided or not at all.
  • Always use reusable cups, knives and forks.
  • Think before you travel. If a video conference call will suffice, spare the hassle and expense and CO2 emissions.
  • Avoid traffic jams and decrease your personal carbon print by walking, bicycling, and using mass transit whenever possible. Consider carpooling with friends, neighbours and co-workers.
  • Taking the stairs can sometimes be faster than waiting in long elevator lines. In addition to saving energy, taking the stairs gives you a mild workout which will help keep you healthy.

Sustainable living

Everything we do impacts on our world, now and into the future. We may think that our environmental impact is not significant but think what a difference it would make to our world if everyone, all 7 billion of us, changed just one thing about our lifestyles.
A sustainable society lives in harmony with its surroundings, meaning that future generations are afforded the opportunity to have the same quality of life. If allowed to continue, current pressures on the global environment will have a negative effect on our children's lives. Our planet is at a very delicate stage of its existence as the very systems that support us are under threat. Pollution, climate change and excessive consumption are beginning to take control. A human centred view of the world has created systems that are out of balance with the rest of nature.

How To Change

Most changes are practical and can be fun too, resulting in things that make you feel good like exercise, social interaction and a feeling of achievement.here's what we can do:

  • Be energy efficient
  • Reduce your waste
  • Grow your own
  • Shop smarter - think about the lifecycle of a product
The benefits include having a healthier planet and a better home, while saving money at the same time!

Living greener needn’t involve major life-changing or expensive decisions. In fact, saving resources and saving money go hand-in-hand. Re-evaluating your transport methods doesn’t always mean buying a newer, more fuel efficient car—it could mean striving to drive less. Changing your diet doesn’t always mean expensive organic foods—it means being smarter about the kind of things you’re already buying. Making your home sustainable doesn’t necessarily mean major projects—it means changing one or two of your personal routines.

There are changes big and small that can help you achieve a sustainable lifestyle, which ultimately can help the planet now, and into the future.

WHY

We all know that our global environment is suffering. Temperatures are rising, forests are shrinking, water tables are falling, soils are eroding, wetlands and hedgerows are under threat, fisheries are collapsing, plant and animal species are disappearing.

In 2006 the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for nature published the Living Planet  Report which told us we are using the planets resources faster than they can be renewed. That is still the case today. To overcome these growing issues we must remember that working together will help the situation, as each of us contributes to the final outcome. This is a critical time for sustainable green lifestyles.

let's think globally and act locally
